NEW YORK CITY

This year we spent our Christmas holiday with both families. First we went to Portland, Oregon and then we went to New York to visit Austin's mom.

New York is a very interesting place. It truly is "the city that never sleeps". It is quick paced and high fashion.

I pictured the NY subway system to be scary and dirty. It was not bad. The subway system is structured so one has to have a pass or ticket to enter. It's the same idea as getting into a sporting event. I loved the subway system! It was quick and much cheaper than taking a taxi. You could get anywhere in half the time.

I don't see how one can live in NY and ever get bored. I have never seen so many shops, theaters, restaurants, and things to do in my life. Living in NY is like living in a different world. It has everything you could ever imagine in it. There were always more things to do than hours in a day.

Shopping in NY is completely overwhelming. There are so many places to shop and so many of them have huge sales. Basically, it is like Black Friday everyday in NY. You get complete anxiety and feel that you need to move very quickly if you want a great deal. Don’t put anything down, or you may have lost it forever. Idaho is always two years behind the fashion and NY is about two years a head of the fashion. That means I jumped four years in one day. Most of the high fashion ladies wear stiletto boots. Since I am so short I have been wearing high heels forever. I can not comprehend how these ladies walk ten to twenty blocks in those boots. The NY's sidewalks have tons of subway grates that can catch the heels. That couple with the fact that people walk like they are speed walking. I just couldn't do it, and that is surprising.

My favorite part of NY is the street performers. There are so many talented people in NY. Austin and I watched a break dancing show that was unreal. I don't understand why these people are in the streets dancing for money, when they are more talented than many of the back-up dancers I have seen at concerts. One day on the Subway a group of men began singing a Boyz II men song. They sounded just like them!! It was really good.

While NY is amazing, it is so dirty!!!!!!!! I can not even begin to explain this to you. I felt like after walking out on the streets I needed to go home and shower. People and businesses leave their trash on the sidewalk! People who have pets let them go potty on the sidewalk because there are few yards. It is so gross. The cost of living in NY is INCREDIBLE. It is so expensive. The cost of things in NY is so expensive!! I am sure that the jobs pay better, but seriously. . . I am not sure it is worth it. It is not a place that young people can grow up without assistance in. Maybe they can, but I don't see how. You would have to be blessed with some serious talent that could score you some money to live in NY as a young adult.

It is fun place to visit though. I would recommend that everyone go!

CONFORMED

After months of getting pestered I finally got a blog.

Now, having said that. . . don't say I didn't warn you all that the Hoovers are BoRiNg!!
